4 Classic Halloween Movies For The Whole Family

Halloween Movies

It’s that time of year again. The creatures are beginning to howl, and if you listen closely, you’ll hear all the things that go bump in the night. That’s right. It’s Halloween season! When people think of Halloween, the first thing they think about is getting dressed up and going trick or treating. They think about putting on make-up, wearing masks, or heading on to Kigurumi to look for fun outfits.

But what about the movies? There are lots of scary Halloween movies out there, but there are just as many that can be watched as a family.

 The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas

This movie comes from the brilliant mind of Tim Burton. In this film, Jack Skellington is known around town as the King of Halloween. Year after year, he comes up with scary activities for the town to enjoy. After being Mr. Halloween for years on end, Mr. Skellington decides that he’s sick of always doing the same thing and decides he wants to handle Christmas as well. Parents be warned, the songs in this movie are very catchy, and you’ll be singing them for days right alongside your children.

It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is one of those movies that only seem to get better with time. It debuted on television in 1966 and is still played around Halloween time every year. You probably watched it growing up, so you can treat this movie as a right of passage between you and your kids. In this movie, Linus hands out in the pumpkin patch night after night waiting for The Great Pumpkin to arrive. Nobody believes that The Great Pumpkin exists and Linus is determined to prove them wrong. This movie, lasting right around 30-minutes, is perfect for children with short attention spans.

Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus is a great movie to watch with kids that are a little on the older side (around 10 or so). This film features an all-star cast and is about a group of evil witches that cast a spell that turned a little boy into a cat that cannot be killed and eliminated his sister. Those witches were hung for what they did, but legend says they come back every Halloween.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter

You can’t forget the Harry Potter franchise of movies. Harry Potter follows the story of a young wizard and his friends as they attend The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the movie, Harry comes up against Lord Voldemort, who is attempting to overthrow the Ministry of Magic. While television networks will often air Harry Potter marathons, consider purchasing the entire series from Pristine Sales, so you can enjoy it during any season.

You can’t go wrong with any of these choices. Just make sure that the movie you choose is age-appropriate and don’t forget the popcorn!
