Amazing Images With An Electron Microscope

We live in a world that is not only enormously big, but also infinitesimally small. Of course, unless you’re one of the rich curious types you’ve probably never taken the time to buy a million dollar scanning electron microscope in order to appreciate its miniature wonders. Fortunately for us however, government funded scientists have done all the dirty work. The images you are about to see would not have been possible with normal light powered microscopes because the wavelength of visible light (photons) is much too long. Electrons, on the other hand, have wavelengths over 100,000 times shorter which leads to much greater magnifications. Needless to say, as a result of this these amazing images with an electron microscope don’t come with the amazing colors you see but these have to be added after the fact.
