Sony introduced a crazy new piece of tech at E3 today. The product name is Wonderbook but the first “book” title they announced was called Book of Spells. Yup, that’s right, it’s Harry Potter related. Not only that, it was created in conjunction with J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore. Our sister site Geekosystem had a few things to say about it in their roundup of Sony’s E3 announcements but from what we know so far, it seems pretty cool. Hit the jump for another look at the device in mock-action plus a few more details.
According to PC Mag, “Wonderbook is a book-shaped peripheral that can be used with the PlayStation Eye camera found in the PlayStation Move to produce augmented reality stories.” Yeah, you’re gonna need all that if you want to use the Wonderbook.
The Hollywood Reporter writes, “Using the PlayStation Move as a wand, gamers would be taught ‘spells’ as if they were students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Available in the fall, Book of Spells will be available for $39.99 for both the book and Blu-ray game.” It basically serves as a technologically advanced pop-up book, giving the user a story as well as a game.
