EW reports that the film will be recreating Schwarzenegger’s memorable emergence from the original 1984 film at L.A.’s Griffith Observatory using both a body double and digital scans of his face from Cameron’s film.
“It’s the holy grail of visual effects,” Producer David Ellison says. “You create a walking, breathing human that doesn’t exist.”
The outlet goes on to reveal that, despite the filmmakers wishing to keep it secret, the film’s villain will be a man-machine hybrid which the’re hoping will be a “visual game changer” along with the digital Arnold.
“Part of the challenge is to dazzle people with something they haven’t seen before,” director Alan Taylor says. “There are elements in our main villain that are straining the capacities of our brilliant visual-effects people. So that’s a good sign.”
The first in a new trilogy of films, Terminator Genisys also stars Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Byung-hun Lee, Michael Gladis, Sandrine Holt and Matt Smith. Directed by Thor: The Dark World‘s Alan Taylor from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier.
Terminator Genisys Release Date is July 1, 2015.
