18 Awesome ’80s Movies You Need To See With Your Family

Every generation has their favorite movies from their era. I never understood that as a kid but as you grow up, you will get to know why your parents or grand parents watch the old black and whites which you can’t stand, My parents made me sit through Lawrence of Arabia and all the old black and white westerns by Clint Eastwood. Now I have my own classics which my kids can’t stand and start calling me old man! but these are the movies we grew up watching. So today I made a list for the kids of this generation to give them a taste of the mighty 80s. Many of trends started in the 80s and eighties actually defined the cinema we see today. Go through the list and let me know which movie is your favorite or which one you really want to watch.

big

Big

Year: 1988

The classic tale of a boy wishing to be big only to find his dream come true will hit home for adults and kids alike. And while your kids can’t visit FAO Schwarz to play on the big piano anymore (the store closed July 2015), the scene continues to be one of the most fun — ever! This is one movie I can watch over and over again.

Adventures in Babysitting

Adventures in Babysitting

Year: 1987

One of my favorites as a child, Elisabeth Shue plays the ill-fated babysitter who must take her charges into the big city. There are car chases, big ’80s shoulder pads, and a superhero-loving little girl who is nothing short of awesome.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

Year: 1982

This is one of the most iconic movie of all times and chances are you may have already seen it. Classic lines like “E.T. phone home”? Or the story of a little boy’s love for his alien friend? It’s a classic tale that every child must see — even if it feels a bit dated, Animation was not up to the standard for obvious reasons, It is almost 30 years old but it still got it’s magic intact.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Year: 1986

Another childhood classic, Is there a single adult out there who doesn’t still love Ferris Bueller? The most popular boy in school, his hot girlfriend, and his downtrodden best friend make for the greatest “squad” of all time. There are both funny and sentimental scenes, classic lines, and enough life lessons to last, well, a lifetime.
