We have seen many new trailers this week and to sum up we come with nine trailers which you should see this week.
Normally I try to stick to trailers meant for US audiences — there are enough movie trailers to watch as it is — but this Japanese trailer for Thor: Ragnarok is pretty awesome. Pretty spoilery, but pretty awesome. If you want to see cameos from a lot of other Marvel heroes, check this one out. The film debuts November 3rd.
Aaron Sorkin has written plenty of movies, but Molly’s Game is the first one he’s actually gotten behind the camera to direct. And, yeah, it certainly looks like something Sorkin would make. The film is based on a true story and stars Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba. Altogether, it should be pretty interesting — though this trailer just feels like such. a. trailer.and I basically have no idea what’s going on.
Here’s the next film from Sean Baker, who’s last movie was the 2015 breakout Sundance hit Tangerine. The Florida Project looks like it walks that same line between sweet, emotional, dark, and funny, following a group of kids as they explore a motel they’re living in, all while their parents struggle to support them. It comes out October 6th.
LA is hardly new territory for a strange, dark thriller, but it looks as gloomy and threatening as ever in Gemini, which has an actress’ assistant under investigation after someone’s death. The film got good reviews at festivals this year, but apparently a release date is still a ways off. It’s not supposed to come out until the first half of next year.
Rememory is a sci-fi murder mystery that has Peter Dinklage investigating a crime by looking back through witnesses’ memories using some high-tech machine. It seems like a simple but neat twist on the traditional detective story, with the sci-fi elements making it all a bit more fun. The film comes out August 24th on Google Play.
I don’t have the slightest idea what’s happening here, but it looks exceptionally strange and creepy, and perhaps a little bit funny too. That mixture makes plenty of sense, since the film comes from Yorgos Lanthimos, whose last picture, The Lobster, put Colin Farrell in a similarly odd position. It comes out October 27th.
Hey, it’s one of those movies where Adam Sandler plays a relatively serious role! And it seems like it could be a good one. The movie comes from Noah Baumbach, whose last film was the excellent Mistress America, and costars Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, and Ben Stiller. It comes to Netflix on October 13th.
Netflix has a gorgeous and terrifying look at California’s wildfires and the people who have to deal with them. Fire Chasers is a new show from the creators of Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch, and its first season follows the firefighters dealing with California’s 2016 wildfires. The show premieres September 8th.
This may be my most anticipated anything of 2017.
