If you’re a fan of the READY PLAYER ONE book that the movie is based on and we have seen a brilliant trailer last week, you might be excited to hear that author Ernest Cline is currently writing a sequel!
The ending of the book was simply brilliant, but I was just so immersed in the story that when it ended I didn’t want to see it come to an end and I was craving for more. I wanted to see the story of Parzival and Art3mis continue! Well, now we will know what happens after the completion of the brilliant adventure from the first book.
During a recent livestream on Facebook, Cline was asked if it was true that he was writing a sequel and this was his response:
“It’s true. I can’t talk about it too much, but there’s no better inspiration for a writer [than] to return to a world they’ve already worked on when they’re watching Steven Spielberg bring that world to life.”
It’s not unusual that Cline’s didn’t reveal any information, but I do think it’s fascinating that he was inspired to write the novel by watching director Steven Spielberg bring his story to life on the big screen and that inspires him to write the sequel. He even gives ideas off the director for the sequel!
We won’t be seeing the book anytime soon but we have a movie coming which looks great.
The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery, and danger..
The movie will star Tye Sherida, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn and T.J. Miller, and Simon Pegg. Ready Player One hits theaters March 30, 2018.
