Netflix is a great place to find new and exciting series that are targeted at a younger audience. And the best thing about Netflix is it is on demand, you can watch it whenever you like, when just relaxing, when writing a dissertation proposal, absolutely anytime! 13 Reasons Why was a series that was extremely popular in 2017, it is a mystery teen drama about a girl that unfortunately commits suicide, she leaves a selection of tapes behind after her death that gives those that knew her, details and clues as to what happened and why. It is extremely special as it deals with issues such as abuse, bullying, and suicide, which are subjects that a lot of young people come into contact with. The great thing about this series is that it has become very, very popular and is due to have a second series made as well. So you can enjoy, safe in the knowledge that the story will definitely go somewhere after the first series! But, be warned! Once you watch one or two episodes on Netflix, it’s very easy to become hooked and continue watching all the time! Definitely, use Netflix in moderation.
Not exactly about studying or school, but definitely set in a similar place and situation, Scrubs is a comedy series. Following the ups and downs in the life of Student Doctor JD, Scrubs is packed full of characters that explore the harsh realities of hospital work, and the comedic elements of being a young adult. Though it was on a couple of years ago now, it is still definitely worth a watch. Why? Because it mixes comedy with pathos really, really well. So you are able to laugh and let your hair down, but also, you are able to empathize with interesting characters and watch them grow as people. The best thing about Scrubs is, it was very popular, and as such has a lot of episodes that you can delve into! The characters go on huge journeys together emotionally, and they change a lot as people. Plus, the atmosphere of a hospital is incredibly similar to that of a school, all rushing around and panic basically! But these Doctors aren’t using Paperial to get their essays done!
Rick and Morty
If you haven’t watched the absolutely wacky sci-fi adventures of Rick and Morty yet, you definitely need to give it a try. A cartoon created by the makers of animated show Adventure Time, and funny sitcom Community, Rick and Morty is a breath of fresh air in terms of programming. The jokes are very existential, and the storylines are mind-bending but hugely entertaining! All of the episodes that have been made are available on Netflix so it is another one that you have to stop yourself from binge-watching! It has also had guest stars on it, such as Stephen Colbert, Werner Herzog, and John Oliver, names that should make any College student want to watch! Be warned, it’s extremely hilarious, and totally out of this world!
