MGM is developing a Child’s Play reboot movie, franchise creator Don Mancini has been producing his own TV series called Chucky. He’s been hard at work on this show for a long time now, Today Variety is reporting that it has been picked up by the Syfy Channel.
Mancini previously teased that the series would be “darker than ever before. It’s going to be very creepy.” The series will also bring the franchise back to its original roots. It was explained that the series will continue what the film franchise has set up:
“We deliberately ended Cult [of Chucky] with a bunch of cliffhangers to set up a TV series. Because there are so many different threads now, television could best accommodate that so that was done intentionally. At the same time, we have a whole new world, a bunch of new characters which we can say nothing about.”
Mancini, who has written every Child’s Play film and has directed the last three, is writing the series. After all, he knows Chucky better than anyone. Mancini has this to say in a statement:
“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us. The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”
Chucky introduced originally in 1988 in the movie Child’s Play, and there have been six movies made so far.
