It was officially announced that there was a Child’s Play TV series coming that would continue the film franchise. Now there’s a new report from Collider that says the franchise is going to get a movie reboot from the producers of IT, David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith.
Creator Don Mancini isn’t a part of the creative team and he’s been associated with every Child’s Play film from the very start. He’s also involved in the TV series.
It’s described as a “contemporary reboot involving a group of kids… and a technologically-advanced doll enters their world.”
There’s no other information given as yet. The great thing about the original doll, what made it even more creepy, was the fact that it is an old-school doll. I can see why they would want to update it with a more technologically advanced doll, but it probably won’t have that same fun creepy factor that the original had. Seems like maybe it would be more sci-fi than horror.
The report also says that MGM is developing the project under a code name “in the hopes the studio could pull off a reveal similar to how Adam Wingard’s The Woods was later revealed to be a new Blair Witch movie.”
