Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War’s MP5 is the best in the game and it is quite unforgivable. In Cold War’s multiplayer, it’s clear this standard SMG unlocked at Level 1 is the best gun for any encounter. And if the weapon’s proliferation in every match since the release is any indication, MP5 is just a bit overpowered.
They are seriously everywhere. Short, mid, or long-range is just no issue for this German 9mm. In standard multiplayer modes like Team Deathmatch or Domination, it is best in any and every situation. It’s got low recoil and a 30-round mag that can expand to 40.
It also has one of the fastest fire rates of any weapon in the game at 857 RPM. Fire rate is an essential weapon stat in any shooter game, but especially robust in games where headshots deal aggravated damage. The more bullets you’re ejecting out, the better odds that a few of them are headshots and more kills. You can see the benefit of the MP5’s exceptional fire rate, where it wins a battle against Cold War’s best sniper rifle by frequently sending bullets to the sniper.
If this situation is giving you a sense of deja vu, it’s because we’ve been here before when we were playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its MP5 is still among the best weapons in the game, at least when it comes to standard 6v6 multiplayer.
Treyarch lead designer Tony Flame recently reaffirmed to fans on Twitter that balancing patches are, of course, on the way once the team has had more time to examine the data and player feedback. He hasn’t clarified exactly which weapons are in the crosshairs for a nerf, but I bet one of them rhymes with “empty jive.”
There WILL be Weapon, Scorestreak, and more balance changes coming in with Season 1, if not sooner. Already seeing some interesting trends in the analytics, but it's too soon for conclusions. If you're giving feedback, know that we see it and are taking it into consideration.
