The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the nominees for the 93rd Academy Awards. 2020 has certainly been a strange one for movies because of the deadly pandemic. Movie theaters closed, studios were forced to try new movie distribution arrangements and they were releasing movies on streaming service and on PVOD instead of theaters which are hurting theaters.
The Academy had to make some changes this year to be able to accept a full selection of movies no matter how they were released. They also accepted releases from January and February of this year.
The Academy nominated 8 movies this year for Best Picture and they include Minari, Mank, Sound of Metal, Nomadland, Judas and the Black Messiah, Promising Young Woman, The Trail of the Chicago 7, and The Father. These were all wonderful movies.
The 93rd Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, April 25th at the Dolby Theatre and other locations with a live telecast broadcasting on ABC. Also, The ceremony will not have a host.
