David Ayer, the director of Suicide Squad, Fury, and the writer of Training Day, is now directing a new crime-thriller which is called The Tax Collector.
The filmmaker rejoins with Fury actor Shia LaBeouf for the movie in a role that’s very distinct from anything we’ve seen him do before. He takes on the role of a criminal underworld “tax collector,” and he and his partner (Bobby Soto) find themselves taken into a dangerous situation.
David (Bobby Soto) and Creeper (Shia LaBeouf), are ‘tax collectors’ for the crime lord Wizard, collecting his cut from the profits of local gangs’ illicit dealings. But when Wizard’s old rival returns to Los Angeles from Mexico, the business is upended, and David finds himself desperate to protect what matters more to him than anything else: his family.
When talking about working with LaBeouf, Director of the movie Ayer said, “He’s one of the best actors I’ve worked with, and he’s the most committed to body and soul. He had a tooth pulled on Fury, and then on Tax Collector, he got his whole chest tattooed. So he kind of goes all in, and I’ve never known anyone that committed.”
The Tax Collector also stars Cinthya Carmona and funny guy George Lopez.
The movie will be released in theaters on August 7, 2020.
