With Aquaman loved by critics and got great reviews and loved at the box office, it’s no wonder that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment would want to cash in more on its victory.
While we all know that an Aquaman sequel will ultimately happen, it looks like there’s going to be a spinoff movie before the sequel. The studio is producing a movie called The Trench and they’ve got newbie writers Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald to write “a horror-tinged script centered on the Trench, the dangerous amphibious creatures are seen attacking the hero and his love, Mera, in Aquaman.”
James Wan will produce alongside Peter Safran and it’s said to be a much more modestly budgeted film than the normal DC superhero tentpole movies.
I loved the design of The Trench creatures in Aquaman and I’m actually pretty excited to learn that they might get their own movie. The Trench is described as “trench-dwelling cannibals”. They have the ability to spit a chemical from their mouth that can cause paralysis. They have superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, speed, senses, the ability to see perfectly in the pitch blackness of the deep ocean, and razor sharp teeth.
There are no details on the story of The Trench, but I can see it being a cool DC horror movie if they did it right.
