Crackle is producing a live-action film adaptation of the hit zombie video game Dead Rising. The movie is called Dead Rising: Watchtower, and they released a trailer for the movie today.
The movie was directed by Zach Lipovsky from a script written by Tim Carter. The zombie apocalypse film stars Jesse Metcalfe, Meghan, Virginia Madsen, Dennis Haysbert, and Keagan Connor Tracy.
The director had this to say about the movie in an interview with /Film:
I have a feeling that if this was the 100+ million dollar version, it would star Tom Cruise and be watered down. The more money you spend, the greater the audience you have to please. This film is being made for the fans and that’s possible because it’s a digital feature. It’s being shot in Vancouver with the help of the Vancouver Capcom team that made games. We even have 2 Xboxes in the office. Someone is always running around putting pylons on heads while we are trying to have meetings. I’m a fan of the game, and I’m excited by how much of the world we’ve been able to cram in.
Here’s the synopsis:
DEAD RISING: WATCHTOWER takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic, with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy. Politics, public paranoia, and media coverage play an important role in the story’s narrative. The Dead Rising game franchise has sold over 7.6 MM copies worldwide. Publisher Capcom has sold over 100 MM game copies worldwide, including juggernauts Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Mega Man.
Dead Rising: Watchtower will premiere on Crackle on March 27th.
