Disney+ to Add IMAX Signature Sound, Movie List Announced

Disney+

Disney, IMAX, and DTS revealed on Wednesday that they would be getting IMAX signature sound by DTS to select movies on Disney+.

According to the announcement, Disney+ subscribers that use select gadgets will now have access to both IMAX’s exclusive expanded aspect ratio — which was released in November 2021 — as well as IMAX signature sound by DTS, which is set to release sometime this year.

Similar to their earlier collaboration with IMAX, this new feature will work on select, IMAX Enhanced certified televisions from makers like Sony and Hisense. Owners of certified AV receivers from manufacturers like Denon, Marantz, and JBL can also use the new feature at release as well. The new function will work on all IMAX Enhanced titles currently on Disney+, with more titles to be revealed in the future.

Currently, the complete list of Disney+’s IMAX Enhanced titles contains:

  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (February 1, 2023)
  • Black Panther
  • Thor: Love and Thunder
  • Doctor Strange

In a statement on the future of their partnerships, IMAX’s Senior Vice President and General Manager Vikram Arumilli said the company was “thrilled” to bring more of its cinematic experiences to home viewers, and teased that “more titles” would be announced soon.

“We’re thrilled to bring audiences an even greater cinematic experience in the home and beyond as we roll out the next phase of IMAX Enhanced on Disney+,” Arumilli .” We can’t wait for fans to experience more of our cutting-edge, unparalleled sight and sound advancements across the entire IMAX Enhanced collection on Disney+, with more titles soon to come.”
