You may have looked at lightning storms or been lucky enough to witness the incredible light show of the auroras. Thanks to satellites fitted with highly-sensitive camera technology, we can now see events high up in Earth’s atmosphere that we could never watch before.
These events are called Transient Luminous Events (TLEs)but what exactly are they? Why are they so elusive? And what, if anything, can they teach us about the secret workings of our atmosphere? The video outlines three main categories of these storms – Sprites, Jets, and ELVES.
