Variety reports that Ethan Hawke is joining his former co-star Denzel Washington in director Antoine Fuqua’s remake of the western The Magnificent Seven. Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt is also on board, along with The Equalizer’s Haley Bennett.
True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote the initial draft of the screenplay, and since then John Lee Hancock has rewritten it. The original movie followed a group of seven gunfighters who help protect a Mexican village from bandits. It’s a classic that featured some of the best actors working at the time (along with one of the best themes ever), and it seems like Fuqua is aiming high for his remake.
