Everything You Need to Know About the Aya Neo

Aya Neo

Gaming enthusiasts are always looking for new games and consoles on which to play. The Nintendo Switch has been well received because it is portable and yet massively advanced from the likes of the Gameboy and DS. A company in China has come up with a concept handheld, which they have used crowdfunding to bring to life. The thing with crowdfunding is that many products never actually make it to manufacture, but this has now been so well received and so successful that when the campaign finishes in approximately 24 days from the date of this article, it is going to be made. So, what is Aya Neo, and what do we know about it?

What is it?

If you log on to Indiegogo, where the crowdfunding is taking place, you will see that the Aya Neo is touted as the world’s first 7nm handheld gaming device. It certainly looks like a handheld console; on the right-hand side, you have a series of navigational buttons and a joystick, and on the left, the arrow keys, more buttons and a second joystick placed in a different position. At the moment, the console is due to be released in China only, but if it’s as successful as the crowdfunding suggests, it is likely that it will go into global development at some point soon.

Technology

So, this is being marketed as not only an ultra-portable Windows PC but an AAA capable gaming device. It is a 7NM AMD Ryzen APU, and the makers are seriously proud of the technology and claim it will be a gaming performance that has never been seen before in this form. The processor is the Cutting Edge Ryzen 5 4500U, and this features a 6-core processor and offers 4.0Ghz max turbo frequency. This is seriously beefy, and therefore it should live up to expectations and process complex games with speed and dexterity. This is 50% more in the way, of course, than anything we have ever seen before and a hexa-core design gives incredible performance when it comes to multitasking.

The Graphics

What do we know about the graphics? Well, it has an AMD Radeon graphics card which means the AAA titles are easy to play. It offers incredibly smooth gameplay and enhances the image details in a way we haven’t seen before. Radeon graphics cards have a range of compatible drivers for all of the latest titles, including things like Cyberpunk 2077, which can be played at 30+ frames per second on lower settings. Being the latest Radeon graphics card, you also get to take advantage of Radeon Image Sharpening, Radeon Boost, and Radeon Anti-Lag. This means they are proud to state that the image sharpening function gives approximately 5 to 10 frames per second more when it comes to AAA titles, and yet there is nothing at all in the way of sacrifice when it comes to the quality of the images.

Memory

Another impressive addition is the memory function; you get 1TB NVME SSD as well as 16GB of LPDDR4x 4266 ram. This will ensure that games can load really quickly with no waiting around as well as assisting in the smooth gaming experience.

The Controls

So as already mentioned, there are plenty of different controls, including joysticks, paddles on the top, and wide sides, which have been specifically designed ergonomically to ensure the best grip possible for gaming performance. The joysticks and the pads have been optimised to feel as natural as possible, so it won’t take you long to get the hang of playing with this console. The joysticks have a windows task manager and also offer an on-screen keyboard so that when you are using it in windows mode, you get the best experience. The shoulder buttons have APPS microswitches for enhanced control. The snippets of video that they offer crowd funders certainly look like an impressive unit, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it. It seems that there may be two different colorways, although this could just be for marketing purposes. Some of those shots shown of this handheld show a white or black casing, whereas others have a clear casing more reminiscent of the old Gameboys, where you can see the circuit boards etc., underneath.

Battery Life

When you consider that a 4100mAh Battery is deemed to be impressive for a mobile phone, even the considerable power horses like the Samsung note series and the iPhone then learning that this Aya Neo has three lithium cells, each featuring 4100mAh, you can see why this is an exceptional offering. Of course, playing games constantly is more draining but the battery life offers five to six hours of gaming on lower TDP settings. On AAA gaming, where the demand for power is higher, you can expect an average of 140 minutes of gameplay. Don’t worry, though; when you need to recharge, you can take advantage of fast charging, which takes you from naught to complete in just 90 minutes.

The Screen

The screen is multi-touch with 800P native landscape 215 PPI H-IPS in a 7-inch panel. It has 500 NIT peak brightness and is completely flicker-free, covering 76% NTSC color space. Finally, gamers will be able to take advantage of the 6-axis gyroscope/accelerometer, which is built-in giving you feedback. There are also rumble motors for haptic collision, combat and vibration, bringing this to life and offering a realistic gaming experience.
