Entertainment Weekly released the first look of Johnny Depp portraying infamous Boston crime boss Whitey Bulger in Black Mass. We absolutely love the cast of the movie and simply because of the cast I think it will be a blockbuster.
“He could be charming. He could be ruthless. He was like a cobra—you never knew where he could strike,” says director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) of Bulger, who was imprisoned with two life sentences in November of 2013. “A lot of people on set knew Whitey intimately. They got chills at [Depp’s] resemblance. Some of them couldn’t even look at him. It’s easy to be the mustache twirling villain but this performance couldn’t be further from that. He is truly gifted.”
Black Mass is the true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf.
Stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson, Joel Edgerton, Juno Temple, Corey Stoll, Kevin Bacon, Adam Scott, Jesse Plemons and Peter Sarsgaard. Warner Bros.
Release Date September 18.
