If you loved the horror The Witch, then there is a new film coming out that you’re going to like. Director Robert Eggers has directed a new historical horror movie called The Lighthouse and today we have our first look at Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson from the movie.
The film is set in 1890 and the two actors play lighthouse keepers. Not much is known about the movie as of yet, we do know that the story is set in Nova Scotia in the world of sea-faring myths and Dafoe plays an old lighthouse keeper, named Old.
Eggers shot the upcoming movie in black and white and I am sure that he’s going to give this film the same excellence that he gave The Witch.
When previously talking about the script for the film, Pattinson said:
This new script blew us away — it creates a totally unique and ambitious universe and manages to somehow feel scary, suspenseful, wondrous and beautiful all at the same time.
Pattinson also talked about the harsh mood while working on the film. Defoe and Pattinson hardly talked with each other off screen and Pattinson came very close to punching Eggers while shooting! When talking to Interview Magazine, Pattinson said, “That’s the closest I’ve come to punching a director.” He went on to say:
“However much I love Robert [Eggers], there was a point where I did five takes walking across the beach, and after a while I was like, ‘What the fuck is going on? I feel like you’re just spraying a fire hose in my face.’ And he was like, ‘I am spraying a fire hose in your face.’ It was like some kind of torture. It definitely creates an interesting energy.”
The movie will premiere next month at the Cannes Film Festival but no official release date is revealed yet.
