NAPOLEON

Ridley Scott, the acclaimed director of films such as Blade Runner, Alien, and Gladiator, is gearing up for his next big project. Fans of his epic historical dramas will be pleased to hear that Scott is currently working on Napoleon, a film that promises to offer a unique perspective on one of the most fascinating figures in history.

Recently, a photo from the upcoming movie was released, giving audiences a first look at the film’s star, Joaquin Phoenix, in the titular role of Napoleon Bonaparte. In the image, Phoenix can be seen riding into battle alongside some of his troops, looking every bit the part of the powerful and charismatic leader.

According to reports, Napoleon will offer “an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.” Vanessa Kirby, who has previously appeared in Mission: Impossible – Fallout and The Crown, will play the role of Empress Josephine, Napoleon’s wife and the object of his affection.

Scott has been open about his fascination with Napoleon, describing him as a figure who “came out of nowhere to rule everything.” However, he also notes that the emperor’s conquests were driven by his desire to win the love of his unfaithful wife. “He conquered the world to try to win her love,” Scott explains, “and when he couldn’t, he conquered it to destroy her, and destroyed himself in the process.”

The film, which was written by David Scarpa, was originally titled Kitbag, a reference to the saying, “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag.” However, the title was later changed to Napoleon to better reflect the film’s focus.

Napoleon is set to be released on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, and is being produced by Apple Original Films and Sony Pictures Entertainment. With its talented cast and intriguing premise, the film is sure to be a must-see for history buffs and movie lovers alike.
