Fox didn't like Chronicle 2 script

Chronicle was a huge surprise in how genuinely amazing it was. But I thought its ending (which I won’t spoil here in case you haven’t seen it. See it damn you!) was pretty much as far as the premise could go. It felt complete. But when Max Landis announced he was writing the sequel he (and our own Max) had a clear idea about how the franchise could evolve, so I trusted both of the Maxes.

But now there’s some troubling news on that front. John Landis, Max Landis’s father, explained why Chronicle 2‘s development is off to a shaky start:

“[Max] wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want Chronicle again!’ And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution,’ and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business.’ “

So Fox naturally wants more of what worked before (even if it barely worked) because that idea made monies and new ideas are too cray cray nowadays. It’s already hard enough for an original idea to get produced, and now it seems even harder for an original sequel to get the green light. I don’t get it though because Fox is handling their other properties well enough, so what’s the hold up here? I just hope that the producers and Landis eventually reach an agreement soon lest they bring in someone else that’s willing to conform for them.
