Mad Max director George Miller‘s upcoming movie Three Thousand Years of Longing is going to be awesome. Today we’ve got the first clips from the movie for you to watch which features a scene Idris Elba’s genie meeting with Tilda Swinton’s Dr. Alithea Binnie, who is being headstrong about making her wishes.
The movie is based on the short story “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye” by A.S. Byatt:
Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic – content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.
This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.
When previously talking about the film, Miller called it his anti-Mad Max movie, explaining, “One thing I can tell you; it’s not [another Fury Road]. It’s a movie that is very strong visual, but it’s almost the opposite of Fury Road. It’s almost all interior and there’s a lot of conversation in it. There are action scenes, but they are by the by and I guess you could say it’s the anti-Mad Max.”
Three Thousand Years of Longing will be released in theaters on August 31, 2022.
