J.K. Rowling is also writing the upcoming spinoff film series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but that is not it Rowling will be expanding the story of Harry Potter to the London stage with a two-part Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play.
Rowling spoke on Twitter about the Cursed Child play is specifically not any kind of prequel.
“I’m also very excited to confirm today that a new play called ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ will be opening in London next year,” said Rowling in her original announcement. “It will tell a new story, which is the result of a collaboration between writer Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany and myself. I don’t want to say too much more, because I don’t want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans.”
Rowling will co-produce the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play along with theater veterans Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender. Look for it to open at the Palace Theatre on London’s West End next year.
