HBO didn’t reveal the specific timeline for the new upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff series, last we heard it was 2020, but they can tell you they are planning to spend big on the series. Uproxx reports that the prequels of GOT will, at the very least, have a budget much higher than the series did in Seasons 1-5. To see how much that really is, check out this statement from HBO’s senior VP of drama Francesca Orsi:
“$50 million (per season) would never fly for what we are trying to do. We are going big.”
There are no final numbers on what last season of Game of Thrones cost to make, but valuations have climbed as high as $15 million an episode, which is quite a lot for an episode. Orsi didn’t define how much HBO is prepared to spend, but it seems as though HBO is ready to bust out the pocketbook at an opportunity at crete another record-breaking money-making TV series. What do you think about the upcoming series?
