HBO Officially Greenlights TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY Starring Jodie Foster

TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY

HBO has officially given True Detective: Night Country the greenlight. This is the fourth season of its True Detective crime anthology series, and it was also announced that Jodie Foster will be joined by Kali Reis in the series. The new season will be filmed in Iceland.

True Detective: Night Country comes from writer/director/showrunner Issa López, and in the story, “when the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunting truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

Reis is an actor, professional boxer, and Indigenous rights advocate who made her big acting debut with the indie film Catch the Fair One. According to the report, it took a while for her deal to close as “insurance and other issues had to be worked out in light of Reis’ boxing career.”

Reis is also a motivational speaker and vocal supporter of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls movement. She teaches young Native women how to fight, both physically and vocally, against the targeting of Native youth.

Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming said in a statement: “We are tremendously excited to return to the True Detective franchise and to be working with the multi-talented Issa López, whose singular vision for her ‘Night Country’ installment will be beautifully realized with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the starring roles.”

The series is being executive produced by Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski, Mark Ceryak, Mari Jo Winkler, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga, and Nic Pizzolatto.
