20th Century Studios has revealed the first Hellraiser remake teaser for Hulu’s forthcoming reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic. The movie has now been scheduled to release on October 7.
The 15-second Hellraiser teaser trailer gives us a little glimpse of Jamie Clayton’s version of Pinhead, the horror franchise’s main villain and leader of the Cenobites.
The Hellraiser remake is directed by David Bruckner (The Ritual) from a screenplay written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, based on the story treatment by David S. Goyer. The ensemble cast includes Odessa A’zion, Jamie Clayton, Adam Faison, Drew Starkey, Brandon Flynn, Aoife Hinds, Jason Liles, Yinka Olorunnife, Selina Lo, Zachary Hing, Kit Clarke, with Goran Visnjic and Hiam Abbass.
“In the film, a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension,” reads the synopsis.
The film is produced by Goyer, Barker, Marc Toberoff, and Chris Stone, with Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, and Todd Williams serving as executive producers. It is a production by Spyglass Media Group.
The Hellraiser franchise is based on Clive Barker’s horror novella titled The Hellbound Heart. Released in 1987, the first film originally told the story of an unfaithful wife who attempts to assist her dead lover in his escape from hell. Pinhead is the franchise’s villain, who leads the sadomasochist demons called Cenobites, who are summoned through an antique puzzle box. Due to its cult following, it was then followed by nine more sequels.
The upcoming movie remake isn’t the only one currently in the works as HBO is also developing a series adaptation of Hellraiser, with Clive Barker connected to executive produce, and David Gordon Green set to direct many episodes.
