Horrific Trailer for Netflix’s Art-Themed Horror Thriller VELVET BUZZSAW

Jake Gyllenhaal

Netflix’s Velvet Buzzsaw is one bizarre trailer. Jake Gyllenhaal plays an awkward and hardcore art critic. That’s exciting.” Then it went ahead and took a horrific turn that I wasn’t expecting as a collection of art he comes across begins to brutally attack him and other people!

This trailer caught me off guard and took me completely by surprise. It looks brilliant and I have to see how all this mayhem ends.

Velvet Buzzsaw comes from director Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) and also has an excellent supporting cast that includes Toni Collette, Zawe Ashton, Tom Sturridge, Natalia Dyer, Daveed Diggs, Billy Magnussen, and John Malkovich. Here’s the synopsis:

In the cutthroat world of fine-art trading and representation, up-and-coming agent Josephina (Zawe Ashton) stumbles across a secret weapon: hundreds of dazzling paintings left behind after an elderly tenant in her building dies. Ignoring the instructions the clandestine artist left to destroy his work, she promptly starts circulating the paintings, which soon attract the attention of the heavy hitters around her—including her boss Rhodora (Rene Russo), art critic (and Josephina’s sometime lover) Morf (Jake Gyllenhaal), and competing collectors, managers, and curators like Bryson (Billy Magnussen) and Gretchen (Toni Collette). Yet as the deceased artist’s portraits gain posthumous acclaim, they also awaken something imperceptible and sinister that threatens to punish those who have profited from his work.

Velvet Buzzsaw is set to premiere at Sundance before it airs on Netflix on February 1, 2019.
