Happy summer solstice! To celebrate the occasion, A24 has released a new trailer for the upcoming horror thriller Midsommar. I’ve heard some amazing things about this movie, and it’s been described as to be a crazy and ruthless daylight nightmare.
The movie comes from director Ari Aster, who previously brought us the horrific horror movie Hereditary. This movie has a very distinct feel than most horror movies as it has a very rich and lively setting. A setting where you don’t expect to see bad and evil things happen, it is not snowy, rainy or misty.
The film focuses on a couple, played by Jack Reynor and Florence Pugh, who are having relationship problems. Pugh’s character seems to be having an emotional breakdown. They end up being invited to Sweden by a friend to visit some traditional midsummer festivities. The trip starts out fine, but then things soon escalate into a disturbing, violent, and grotesque ordeal.
The director previously explained that the movie is based on a “Scandinavian folk horror” story and also said that the film is “an apocalyptic breakup movie” and explained that the “recent death of the main character’s parents casts a sense of dread over the proceedings.”
If you’re into disturbing horror films that mess with your head, it looks like this one is going to give that to you.
Midsommar also has a fabulous cast that includes Will Poulter, Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia, and Archie Madekwe.
Midsommar hit theaters on August 9th, 2019.
