While Ridley Scott’s next Alien prequel movie is already stuck, James Cameron seems to be struggling to return to the Alien franchise now. As you know, he directed Aliens seven years after Ridley Scott’s Alien was released.
Aliens is the only movie in the franchise that Cameron has been a part of, but it looks like he wants to come back to the franchise. During a new interview with IGN, Cameron was questioned if he could give Neill Blomkamp a call about making a new Alien movie, and this is what Cameron said:
“I’m working on that, yeah.”
It’s a very brief answer, but it tells us a lot! It tells us that Cameron is working on seeking to work with Neill Blomkamp on his Alien movie project that fell to the wayside after Fox committed to Scott’s Alien prequel movies.
It would be so cool to see Cameron and Blomkamp work together on developing a new Alien film! The plan for the film was to be a direct sequel to Aliens and it would see the return of Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, Michael Biehn as Cpl. Dwayne Hicks, and even Newt.
Everyone who worked on Aliens that read the script for the film has loved it, including Cameron, who previously said:
“I think it works gangbusters. He shared it with me, and I think it’s a very strong script and he could go make it tomorrow. I don’t know anything about the production, and I don’t know what Ridley [Scott]’s doing. But hopefully there’ll be room for both of them. Like parallel universes.”
