James Cameron’s iconic classic 1989 deep sea sci-fi film The Abyss has never been released on Blu-ray. But this is about to change. Skip Kimball, who has worked in the editorial department on some of Cameron’s movies including Avatar and Alita: Battle Angel, said that the movie is currently going through the remastering process and will come out as a gorgeous 4K!
The Abyss was awesome, and I couldn’t be more excited to see that one day in the near future it will come out as a 4K movie. I really hope that when they are finished they do a theatrical rerelease!
If you’ve never seen The Abyss, it’s a must watch movie and you should watch it now, but hopefully, by the end of the year you’ll have Blu-ray and 4K options to choose from.
The movie stars Ed Harris, Michael Biehn, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Leo Burmester, Todd Graff, and more.
Here is the synopsis:
An American nuclear submarine encounters an alien species, which coincidentally causes massive electrical and hydraulic malfunctions, causing the sub to crash into an underwater cliff and sink. The navy asks the workers of a nearby underwater oil rig who are joined by a number of navy SEALS to locate and investigate the cause of the crash. As the crew embark on their mission, they encounter a number of difficulties and discover that they may not be alone. There is something else down there.
