Well atlast Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park made it to the Billion Dollar Club. It was certainly a dino-sized hit when it arrived in cinemas back in 1993, it never quite made it past $1 billion, levelling off at around $970 million. But now, thanks to the 3D re-release, which has been rolling out globally since April of this year, the movie is now sitting on a cash pile of $1.09 billion worldwide.
The added dosh means the film is now listed as 13 on the all-time earners list, even if its success is still dwarfed by the likes of Avatar and Titanic. Of course, given that many box office tracking services don’t count the re-release’s figures towards the total, the final figure is still in question, but by all standards, the Park has been a success.
Part of that fresh monetary influx has been in China, where the dimensionally polished film opened this week at the top spot with $6.3 million. And of course, it’ll all help to fuel anticipation for Jurassic Park IV, which is currently set to stomp on to screens in 2015 after going back to the development lab for a little more research.
