Kelsey Grammer and CBS revealed last year that they were looking at reviving the classic series, Frasier. The last thing we heard about the series was that Grammer had not “settled yet on a premise worthy of a Frasier reboot, but he’s still on the hunt.” He explained:
“No, there’s been no premise that has come along that has the necessary fire. A lot of us are quite committed to the concept that you would never try to redo what we once had.”
Grammer then said that he would like his fellow Frasier castmates to join him on the series reboot, saying:
“There has been some discussions; nothing is planned; There is nothing set in stone. In my own personal approach to what I’ve discussed with other people is that I wouldn’t want to do it without these guys.”
Now we are learning in a new report from Deadline that there are “six different ideas” in contention for a Frasier revival. The news came from Grammer himself, who said:
“That little folder is filled with six different ideas that are all in contention for what may be the new Frasier. A continuation of Frasier. They’re similar, it’s a new life, in a new city.”
He went on to add that important addition to the new series would be to have an actor and character that has the same kind of energy that the late actor John Mahoney brought the original series as Martin Crane.
“Of course, John Mahoney died so you’d need to replace that energy, perhaps like they did on Cheers with Coach, they found Woody, who had the same kind of sensibility.”
