It is normal to fantasize about being something that you are not, like a superhero. This is why people seek out films, comic books, stories, and even games. It gives the viewer an opportunity to escape reality. Of course, you should not go overboard, or a nosy neighbor might assume you have a mental disorder and call a social worker to check on your family. Mental health concerns aside, here are a few socially acceptable ways to live out your superhero fantasies.
Attending a Comic-Con Convention
One event you should go to is a Comic-Con convention, which sprouts up in places like San Diego and other regions of the country. At these events you will not be judged; in fact, a study was done on cosplayers to prove that these individuals are normal just like anyone else.
The survey showed that cosplayers are great, sane people. You will even be able to compare costumes with other interested people. They might also offer tips to make your costume better.
Use Your Kids to Throw a Costume Party
Halloween only comes once a year, but that does not mean that your awesome adult Wonder Woman costume (or whatever costume you have) needs to sit in the closet. Throwing a simple costume party for your kids is a perk of being a parent.
You still get to play pretend and have fun with your kids while being a superhero right in front of their eyes. You can tell all guests to come in a costume; then you won’t be the only parent wearing one.
Make Short Films at Home
Most people have a smartphone with a video camera; it should be good enough to film a few scenes of a story. People, even those nosy neighbors, understand film-making is all about make-believe and props. You can let everyone know that you like filming shorts at home. This should give you the freedom to wear your costume more than just once.
It might be a good idea to start posting your shorts up on YouTube or in another video sharing platform. It might seem far-fetched, but your stories might become overnight sensations. You could even start filming in other places outside your home if you really get into this way of telling a story. Do not worry about special effects, just try to have fun with it.
Make Friends with Other Cosplayers
There are many groups of people online who think just like you. You are not the only one out there who wants to be a superhero more than just once a year. All you need to do is find a group of fellow superheroes near your home, and this could open up a whole new door of blissful freedom. Many of these people love to throw costume parties to give themselves an excuse to dress up. All you have to do is say that you are heading to a costume party should you encounter a neighbor who does not know how to mind his or her business.
Remember that some of these groups, like meetup groups, appreciate a member who gives as much as he or she takes. This means that you should offer to be a host for one of the costume parties from time to time.
As you can see, there are a number of ways to wear your favorite super hero costume even after Halloween. Hopefully, you will not have to worry about what other people think and just be who you are.
