Lucasfilm’s STAR WARS: ANDOR Series Plot Details Revealed

Lucasfilm has been creating a series based on Diego Luna‘s character from Rogue One, Cassian Andor. The 12-episode series is set five years before the events of Rogue One and is said to be a “tense, nail-biting spy thriller.” The story is based on Rebel agent Andor in the early days of the Rebellion against the Empire.

The series is a “refugee story” that sees people trying to flee from a completely powered Empire. Luna recently presented some new details in an interview with Vanity Fair saying, “It’s the journey of a migrant. That feeling of having to move is behind this story, very profoundly and very strong. That shapes you as a person. It defines you in many ways, and what you are willing to do.”

The show was developed by Tony Gilroy, who announced further details saying, “This guy gave his life for the galaxy, right? I mean, he consciously, soberly, without vanity or recognition, sacrificed himself. Who does that? That’s what this first season is about. It’s about him being really revolution-averse and cynical, and lost, and kind of a mess.”

The story will dive into Cassian’s past and how his homeworld was destroyed. It will also see him come to the realization that being on the run all the time isn’t possible. Gilroy added, “His adopted home will become the base of our whole first season, and we watch that place become radicalized. Then we see another planet that’s completely taken apart in a colonial kind of way. The Empire is expanding rapidly. They’re wiping out anybody who’s in their way.”

The new report also verifies that Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma will be a lead character in the show, and her story will “parallel” Cassian’s.

The series also stars Denise Gough (Collett, Angels in America), and Kyle Soller (Anna Karenina, The Titan), and it was also previously announced that Stellan Skarsgard (Thor, Good Will Hunting), along with Adria Arjona (6 Underground) and Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), Denise Gough (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), Kyle Soller (Poldark), and Robert Emms (Chernobyl) in undisclosed roles. Jimmy Smits and Alistair Petrie are also joining the show as Bail Organa and General Draven. Then there’s Forest Whitaker who will reprise his role as Saw Gerrera, and Ben Mendelsohn, who portrayed Imperial Director Orson Krennic, is rumored to return. Alan Tudyk will eventually join the series as his droid character K-2SO, but he will not appear in the first season.

Andor first season is set to premiere at some point in 2022.
