Man of Steel Sequel Pushed Back

If you are a fan of the endless speculation and rumor mongering that surrounds Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel sequel (commonly but not officially known as Batman vs Superman,) boy are you in for a treat!

Superman vs Batman

You now have nine extra months to fill with baseless claims that Colin Farrell will be playing Jimmy Olsen and that Peter Dinklage and Verne Troyer are competing for the role of Mister Mxyzptlk (my sisters cousin dates the roommate of the the key-grip, he says it is totally happening.)

Warner Bros. announced yesterday (Jan 17) that the next step in building a DC Comics cinematic movie universe was being bumped from its previously announced July 17th, 2015 release date to May 6th, 2016.

According to THR, the on screen pairing of the Dark Knight and The Man of Steel will be replaced by Joe Wright’s Peter Pan for the studios 2015 summer line up. WB president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman gave little information on why the move took place:

We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases. We share the fans’ excitement to see DC Comics’ most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016. Peter Pan has delighted people of every generation for more than a century, so we are thrilled to bring him back to the screen next summer for today’s moviegoers.

While it is foolish to expect the studio to release any explanation for the delay in production  it does set up a very interesting weekend. May 6th, 2016 is also the release date for a yet to be named Marvel movie, the second in the third phase of it’s Cinematic universe. Whatever movie the House of Ideas has set for that date better be a doozey.

So two comic book movies hitting theaters on the same day? That should go over nicely. Don’t see any fanbeing rage from either side having a field day with this one, but hey… lets focus on the real winners here, the Peter Pan fans.
