Deadline reports that the studio has hired Night at the Museum franchise director Shawn Levy to direct the feature. In the game MINECRAFT players create their own avatar and are dropped into a blank world filled with nocturnal monsters. Players then use cubes to create, build, and destroy structures and other forms across multiple game modes and various players.

The movie will be a live-action adaptation, which seems weird because it would fit a lot better in a CG animated universe. Creating it in live-action would take away the the look of the brand, which the players have become accustomed to. Who knows though, maybe Levy has a way to make it all work.
