British photographer Peter Thorpe found the perfect inspiration for his dog in costumes. In 1990, he began dressing up his household pups, starting with his terrier, Paddy, as reindeer, Ebeneezer Scrooge, tree angels and all kinds of Christmas-inspired characters.
“Paddy was quite grumpy so the fact he would happily sit within a set dressed in a silly outfit was amusing,” said Thorpe to Mashable. Paddy was Thorpe’s first dog to appear in the series, wearing a bright red nose as Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer.
After Paddy passed away, Thorpe continued the series with his other rescued terrier, Raggle. “Sadly Raggle is now approaching retirement so this may be the last card,” said Thorpe. In Raggle’s final photo, Raggle is dressed as a mouse pining after a Christmas cake.
