IMAX has released a new super cool poster for Ready Player One. The art was done by Orlando Arocena, who is a brilliant artist and I love his work over the years. The new poster is filled with all kinds of pop culture hints, You should be very excited for Ready Player One!

If you haven’t watched the really cool movie trailer you should watch it below. This is the best trailer that has been released for the movie yet.

Ready Player One will come out packed with all sorts of geeky movie and video game references. With Steven Spielberg directing the film, one thing you won’t see in the movie is any references from his movies, even though the story is based on the classic 80s Spielberg era.

There was a reference to Spielberg’s classic 1977 sci-fi film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. But, Spielberg ended up cutting it out from the movie. During a recent press event for the movie, screenwriter Zac Penn said this about it:

The spaceships [are my favorite]. I really like that there’s the Galactica. The ship from Silent Running, which I think Steven was the one who pointed it out, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, of course! The Silent Running ship!’ Because you wouldn’t let us put in the mother ship from Close Encounters, which I had originally…

Spielberg then chimed in to explain why:

“There comes a point when I would have had to just refer to somebody else who liked my movies and not make a movie about my movies. I let a couple of little iconic characters in from my films – especially the DeLorean, which came from the book directly – but otherwise, there were a lot of things we could have put in but didn’t.”

Penn then goes on to explain a little Joke scene that he had in mind for the mothership from Close Encounters saying:

“Oh yeah, and if I could just say because it’ll never see the screen, I had this joke about parking the mother ship and how difficult it would be. I don’t blame Steven for [cutting it], I didn’t know Steven was going to be directing the movie when I wrote it!”

There is a lot has been cut from the movie, but don’t you worry there are lots of geeky references for fans to have fun with! During a previous interview Spielberg explained:

“I think we were pretty awesome in the 1980s. I love the ’80s, and I think one of the reasons I decided to make the movie was that it brought me back to the 1980s and let me do anything I want, except for my own movies. I’ve cut most of my movies out of Ernie’s book, except for the Delorean and a couple of other things that I had something to do with. I’ve cut a lot of my own references out. I was very happy to see that there was enough without me! The ’80s was a great time to grow up.”

Ready Player One hit theaters on March 29, 2018.
