Natalie Portman’s upcoming astronaut sci-fi drama called Lucy in the Sky first trailer is revealed. The movie was previously named Pale Blue Dot, and it comes from Legion and Fargo writer Noah Hawley.
The story will examine the theory that astronauts lose touch with reality after being in space for longer periods of time. Portman plays a triumphant female astronaut named Lucy Cola who, “after coming back home from a mission in space, starts to unravel when confronted by her seemingly perfect American dream life.”
She ends up having an affair with a fellow astronaut (Jon Hamm), which as you might think getting out of control when he begins sleeping with an astronaut trainee. Dan Stevens stars as Lucy’s husband in the movie. The movie is actually loosely based on astronaut Lisa Nowak’s alleged criminal activities involving her romance with astronaut William Oefelein.
Here’s the synopsis:
An astronaut returns to Earth after a lengthy mission and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut. She heads into a downward spiral as she loses her connection to her family — a condition that can afflict those who spend a long time in space — and when her lover begins another affair with an astronaut trainee, the bottom drops out.
Lucy in the Sky stars Zazie Beetz, Nick Offerman, Tig Notaro, Ellen Burstyn, Colman Domingo, and Joe Williamson.
Fox Searchlight will release Lucy in the Sky in 2019.
