Negan on a Journey in Manhattan in THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY Full Trailer

AMC recently unveiled an exciting full trailer for the highly anticipated series, The Walking Dead: Dead City, offering fans a glimpse into the intense and action-packed narrative that lies ahead. This latest installment reunites two iconic characters, Negan (portrayed by the talented Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (brought to life by the remarkable Lauren Cohan), as they venture into the treacherous landscapes of post-apocalyptic Manhattan, now infested with hordes of relentless walkers. The burning question arises: What compels them to undertake this perilous journey? Their objective is none other than the rescue of Maggie’s abducted son, Hershel.

However, the path they tread is fraught with challenges and danger. Negan finds himself a fugitive, relentlessly pursued by the formidable New Babylon Marshal Perlie Armstrong, portrayed with vigor by Gaius Charles. Armstrong, an unwaveringly determined and devoted family man, serves as the embodiment of justice in the land of New Babylon, a state that has united in the pursuit of restoring order to the shattered world. His mission is to protect and bring justice to their community, and one of the most daunting obstacles in his path is the apprehension of the elusive Negan.

Series creator and showrunner Eli Jorné went on to talk about the relationship of Negan and Maggie in the series:

“It’s interesting because we see a very unprocessed level of trauma that we know happened between Maggie and Negan. In Dead City, we really get a chance to [ask], ‘What is this? What does it take to move through it?’ And more than anything, it’s a chance for us to be forced together on this mission. The tension and unmovable things are still very present. We’ve seen them intersect so often, but in this show, it’s really this tunnel that they’re trapped in to face things they may have run away from, more so what Maggie has run away from and what Negan[‘s presence] brings up for her. It’s like an exercise in intimacy with the worst person.”

Jorné further explained the complexity of their relationship this time around:

“It’s the next chapter in the story of Maggie and Negan, and so in that sense, it’s a lot of grief, trauma, and loss on both sides and how do you navigate that? How does Maggie look in Negan’s face every day and remember what he did to the love of her life? That’s still a huge part of the show. For anybody who’s watched the walking dead all these years and connected to those characters, we’re continuing the story, growing it, evolving it, and deepening it in a whole new landscape.”

The dynamic between these characters promises to be captivating, as their intertwined histories and conflicting agendas collide amidst the chaos. The complexities of their evolving relationship will undoubtedly contribute to the series’ compelling narrative.

The Walking Dead: Dead City is set to premiere on Sunday, June 18 at 10pm ET, airing on AMC and AMC+. Following its debut, subsequent episodes will be scheduled for the 9pm ET timeslot.
