Netflix and Amazon are pumping out a lot of international content, and Europe is making sure it gets a fair piece of the pie. Engadget reports an upcoming law passed by the EU will secure streaming services have at least 30% of original content based out of a European nation. Additionally, these European nations can mandate the minimum number of shows or movies in their own countries, or add a surcharge to citizens to help fund their national film funds.
That’s not completely surprising given the big push Netflix has put into producing international content, although I never would’ve guessed it contained 30% of content on Netflix.
I’m guessing that means shows like The Rain and Dark aren’t going anywhere anytime soon then! What is your favorite European show on Netflix right now? I am currently watching The Forest which is a French show and it is quite good.
