Netflix recently announced that they will be releasing an animated series adaptation of the hit video game Castlevania and you will be able to see it later this year. As it turns out, this is indeed the animated project that Adi Shankar (Dredd) and Fred Seibert (Fairly OddParents, Adventure Time) were working on. It will be R-rated ultra-violent and dark take on the franchise.
Thanks to Shankar, we now have an official synopsis to share with you offering details on the story, producer also offers up some thoughts on what he’s got cooking and boldly exclaims that Castlevania “will end the streak and be the western world’s first good video game adaptation.”
Shankar also talked to Collider, and told them that Castlevania “has a Game of Thrones vibe to it.” He’s already seen the series and says that it’s “fucking amazing.”
Here’s the synopsis:
Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.
Shankar goes on to reveal that there are currently two seasons ready to go and that both of those seasons were written by comic writer Warren Ellis (Thunderbolts, Wolfskin, Red, Fell, Iron Man). Season one will air in 2017, and season two is coming in 2018.
