A live-action remake of Aladdin is in the making. These remakes have been adequate at best in my book, especially since most of the time they’re the exact same movie
There have been some great additions though, such as the deeper explanation of the curse in Beauty and the Beast.
Two new songs have been written and added. The songs were even written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul who wrote the music for La La Land and The Greatest Showman.
Mena Massoud is playing Aladdin in the film and he told Variety the following about the new music:
“We’ve got all the original music in there, plus a couple of new songs. They’re really empowering. I gotta say one is very empowering for women, I think people are going to really, really dig it. The other one is awesome as well. We got the same guys who did ‘La La Land’ and ‘The Greatest Showman,’ we’re in good hands.”
I am glad that Jasmine is getting a new song, she deserves it. I feel like she’s often ignored and downplayed in the movie. She keeps wanting to do things, but then it just doesn’t happen. Maybe now she’ll have a significant role. Maybe she’ll even be the one to kill Jafar. I really want to see that.
Aladdin will hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
