Mortal Kombat first trailer is released yesterday, and fans loved what the trailer had to offer! It’s going to be packed with all the blood and gore that fans of the franchise want to see in the movie, and I’m hoping the story will be good and engaging as well.
The new poster features the fan-favorite characters Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The movie really starts off with a background story for these two characters. It’s “a crucial piece of lore from the original games: the blood feud between the clans of Hanzo and Bi-Han.” The 10-minute opening sequence is set in feudal Japan, “long before these fighters wielded supernatural abilities as Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and it ends in a pretty nasty hand-to-hand combat between the two.” It’s explained that “Hanzo’s the leader of a ninja clan and he’s strong, but also… at the beginning, he’s a peaceful family man. It is like a family drama with excitingly brutal fighting.”
The story of the movie focuses on MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan) who “is unaware of his heritage – or why Outworld’s Emperor seeks to hunt him down. Cole finds sanctuary under Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) and prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high-stakes battle for the universe. Will Cole be able to unleash his arcana in time to stop the Outworld once and for all?”
Mortal Kombat will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on April 16th.
