After months of #TrueDetectiveSeasonTwo speculation, Vaughn and Colin Farrell will be starring in the True Detective Season 2, HBO confirmed on Tuesday. The two will follow in the footsteps of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
McConaughey and Harrelson left big, award-nominated roles which are hard to compete that Vaughn and Farrell have to fill in the roles.
According to the HBO press release, this run of “True Detective” will focus on three police officers and a “career criminal” all of whom “must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.” Farrell will reportedly play a character named Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn.” Vaughn is apparently the career criminal, Frank Semyon, who is in “danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”
Justin Lin, of “Fast and Furious” franchise fame, will direct the first two episodes. Series creator Nic Pizzolatto returns as writer.
As for the show’s female lead, actresses such as Jessica Chastain, Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams were once rumored for the role. According to TheWrap, Rosario Dawson, Brit Marling, Malin Akerman, Oona Chaplin, Kelly Reilly, Jamie Alexander and Jessica Biel are also in contention for the part.
