101 Studios has released a new trailer for The Current War, a film that tells the true story behind the electricity battle that took place between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse.
The movie was originally to be released back in 2017, but after The Weinstein Company went bankrupt, the movie fell into chaos. Luckily 101 Studios was formed and picked it up, so now the movie will actually release in theaters.
The Current War tells the story of Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch), George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) and Nikola Tesla (Nicholas Hoult), “three brilliant visionaries in a cutthroat competition to literally light up the world. The film follows Edison, whose plans of bringing electricity to Manhattan are upended when Westinghouse and Tesla announce they have a superior idea for how to rapidly electrify America, sparking one of the first and greatest corporate feuds in U.S. history.”
TThe movie was directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) with executive producer Martin Scorsese. It also stars Katherine Waterston, Tom Holland, Matthew Macfadyen and Tuppence Middleton.
The movie opens in select theaters on October 4, 2019, and then on October 11, 2019, everywhere.
