Non-Disney The Little Mermaid Movie Trailer Released

Check out the new trailer of the live-action film The Little Mermaid, but it’s not the one you’re thinking about. There is a film version of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale based on the 1989 Disney animated film in development with Hamilton and Moana‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Starring Shirley MacLaine (Terms of Endearment), Poppy Drayton (Downton Abbey), William Moseley (The Chronicles of Narnia), Loreto Peralta (Instructions Not Included) and Gina Gershon (Empire).

The film is a take on the 1837 fairy tale that we’re all familiar and in love with. A mermaid is being dominated by someone who has a part of her. In this film, it’s her soul, and in the animated film, it’s her voice. In this story, a young reporter (Moseley) is sent to a small town in Mississippi to investigate a story about a woman who is really a mermaid. His younger sister (Peralta) meets the mermaid (Drayton), who tells her there is a legend among her people about a little girl who is blessed with the soul of a mermaid.

The Little Mermaid is set to be released this summer.
