So it is official that HBO is really producing a Deadwood movie! EW has released a few photos from David Milch‘s western, and they highlight the return of Ian McShane as the wicked Al Swearengen, owner of the Gem Saloon, along with Timothy Olyphant as Seth Bullock, who is a U.S. Marshall now.
It’s kinda insane that after 12 years this movie is really going to happen because I truly never really thought it would see the light of day. But here we are, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about the news! I was a huge fan of the show and I’m glad to see that it’s eventually going to get a fitting conclusion.
Here’s the synopsis for the film that was previously released:
The indelible characters of the series are reunited after 10 years to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.
McShane and Olyphant will be joined by Molly Parker (Alma Ellsworth), Paula Malcomson (Trixie), John Hawkes (Sol Star), Anna Gunn (Martha Bullock), Dayton Callie (Charlie Utter), Brad Dourif (Doc Cochran), Robin Weigert (“Calamity” Jane Canary), William Sanderson (E.B. Farnum), Kim Dickens (Joanie Stubbs) and Gerald McRaney (George Hearst).
The movie also introduces a new cast member, Jade Pettyjohn, who will play a character named Caroline, no details on the character’s role in the story is available right now.
Game of Thrones director Daniel Minahan will direct the movie and script is written by creator David Milch.
